An injury during a normal workout at Saratoga Race Course denied Grade I winner Aubby K all future racing and she was retired. Not long after her retirement, trainer Ralph Nicks confirmed that Aubby K was privately sold as a prospective broodmare at an unnamed price.
Nicks did not disclose either the name of the buyer or if the mare would remain in the United States.
Aubby K, Kentucky bred, is sired by Street Sense out of Lilly Capote by Capote. She won the Grade 1 Humana Distaff earlier this year and also the Grade II Inside Information Stakes.
The horse fractured her foreleg sesamoid while training on July 29. She was able to walk back to her stable after her injury and no surgery was required. She was put on stall rest.
Nicks said, “She's not broken down. The injury is not necessarily a career-ending injury.”
Aubby K had nine starts with a record of 4-0-2, earning a total of $435,004.
